If you have ever stood on White Beach unable to decide whether to try freediving or scuba, the scuba and freediving combo in Boracay is the answer: do both, in a single day, back to back. Our Discover Combo pairs a gentle morning freedive on the rope with a full guided scuba dive in the afternoon, so you get a real first taste of both worlds under the surface — no experience, no certification and no strong swimming needed. This guide walks you through exactly what the combo includes, who it suits, how the day runs, and why so many first-timers say it was the best decision of their trip.
What is the scuba and freediving combo?
The combo is one full day that bundles two complete beginner experiences: Discover Freediving in the morning and Discover Scuba Diving in the afternoon, with a relaxed snack break in between. Each half is a genuine first experience in its own right — together they are the most popular way to start your life underwater. You are guided one-on-one or in a small group by our PADI professionals the whole time, and all your gear is provided. Because it is a package rather than two separate bookings, the Discover Combo costs less than paying for each activity on its own.
Why do both in one day?
Freediving and scuba feel completely different, and most people genuinely cannot tell which they will prefer until they have tried each one. Freediving is quiet and weightless — a single breath, total calm, and a slow descent on the rope. Scuba is exploration — a tank on your back, easy breathing, and time to glide over a living reef and meet its fish and turtles. Trying both on the same day, while your nerves and excitement are fresh, is the clearest way to discover which one is for you. Plenty of guests fall for both. If you want to weigh them up first, our honest breakdown of freediving vs scuba diving in Boracay compares the two side by side.
Your combo day, hour by hour
The day is built to be gentle and unhurried. Exact times are confirmed with your booking manager, but here is how a typical combo unfolds:
- 8:30 AM — Freediving welcome & breathing. A focused classroom and dry-land practice with your freediving instructor: breathing mechanics, equalization, the golden rules, and the final-breath sequence.
- 9:00 AM — Into the water. Your first real freedives on the rope, pulling hand-over-hand and descending at your own pace to a gentle 10 metres, your instructor beside you the whole way.
- 10:30 AM — Boutique break. Surface, dry off and refuel with a snack and a cold drink at our beachside boutique — the perfect pause between breath-hold and bubbles.
- 11:00 AM — Scuba briefing & first breaths. Switch worlds. Your PADI Pro fits your scuba gear, explains how it all works, and guides you through a few basic skills in calm, shallow water.
- 1:00 PM — Your full guided reef dive. The main event: a full guided dive over a living coral reef to a gentle 12 metres, hand-in-hand with your instructor.
- ~2:00 PM — Wrap up. Surface smiling, debrief, and collect the photos from your day.
What's included
The combo is designed so you can just turn up and enjoy it. Your day includes:
- All freediving and scuba equipment for both sessions.
- A dedicated PADI professional guiding you through each activity.
- A snack and a cold drink at the boutique between the two dives.
- Photos from your freedive and dry shots from the day, so you leave with proof you did both.
- Course credit toward two certifications — more on that below.
All you need to bring is a swimsuit, a towel and a sense of adventure. Prices for the combo change from time to time, so check the Discover Combo page for the current rate — and remember that booking online and paying cash on the day usually saves you a little more.
Who can do the combo?
The combo is built for complete beginners. You do not need any prior experience, any certification, or any qualification — just reasonable general health. The minimum age is 12, and both activities stay well within gentle, beginner-friendly depths (about 10 metres freediving and 12 metres on scuba). You do not need to be a strong swimmer, but you should be comfortable in the water. If you have a heart, lung, ear or other medical condition, or you are pregnant, let us know when you book so we can advise you honestly — some conditions need a doctor's clearance before diving. As with any diving, you should not fly within roughly 18–24 hours after your dives, so plan the combo for early in your Boracay trip rather than the day you leave.
Try both first, then go further
One of the best things about the combo is that your day is not a dead end — it is a head start. The freediving half is credited toward the full PADI Freediver course, and the scuba half credits toward your PADI Open Water certification, so if you fall for one side (or both) you can carry straight on without paying for that first day twice. That makes the combo a smart, low-cost way to sample both paths before committing. When you are ready, you can continue with the PADI Freediver course or your PADI Open Water certification — and our team can help you plan the rest of your training around your stay.
Book your scuba and freediving combo
Boracay's calm, warm water and healthy reefs make it one of the best places anywhere to try both disciplines in a day, and the combo is doable year-round. Water sits at a comfortable 27–29°C, and mornings are usually the calmest and clearest. If you would rather ease in one discipline at a time, you can always start with a standalone Discover Scuba Diving session or a Discover Freediving experience instead. Either way, our PADI 5★ team will look after you from your first breath to your last. Explore the full scuba diving and freediving options, then book your combo online.
