• A certified instructor or dive guide — for a first-timer, a PADI Instructor is with you one-on-one the entire dive.
• Full scuba equipment — mask, fins, wetsuit, BCD, regulator, tank and weights. You don't need to own or rent anything separately.
• Boat or shore access to the dive site, and the air fills for your dive.
• Guiding and safety — a briefing, in-water supervision and the resort's standards behind you.

Getting certified: PADI course prices

If you want to dive independently anywhere in the world, you'll want a certification rather than a one-off intro. Course prices are higher than a single dive because you're paying for several days of training, materials and the certification itself — but you keep the qualification for life.

If you're already a certified diver, you pay for fun dives — guided dives on Boracay's reefs, walls and wrecks. A single guided fun dive is the simplest option, but the price per dive drops when you bundle several together:

• 5-dive pack — a proper weekend of diving.

Children can dive too, and the pricing sits alongside the adult programs. The PADI Bubblemaker lets kids aged 8 and up try scuba in shallow, confined water with an instructor, while older children can join a Discover Scuba dive or start a Junior Open Water course. Family groups often mix a kids' Bubblemaker with an adult fun dive on the same visit.

How to pay less

There are three straightforward ways to bring your total down:

• Bundle your dives — the per-dive rate steps down with each larger fun-dive pack, so committing to more dives lowers the cost of each one.
