Hinugtan

Hinugtan is our hidden gem, and the only entry in this guide that is not off Boracay itself — it sits on the Panay coast, about an hour away by boat. That distance is the whole character of the dive: it is well off the usual circuit, so the reef sees very few divers and looks it.

There are actually three dive sites worth diving in the Hinugtan area, most of them wall dives, which is why it works best as a planned trip rather than a single tank — once you have made the crossing you want more than one dive out of it. The corals are pristine and the reef supports abundant life, with the feeling of a site that has been left alone. Because we dive it rarely, our species records here are still thin — this is a page that will fill out as we log more dives.

At 29–32 m, Hinugtan is Advanced Open Water and Deep Diver territory, and Nitrox is worth considering given how much of the dive sits deep. Talk to us if you would like it on your itinerary — it runs as a dedicated trip.
